General Information

  • The next General Election is Tuesday, November 6, 2001.
  • You must be registered to vote by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 9, 2001, to be eligible to vote in this election.
  • If you will be away from the City of Charlottesville on Election Day or are unable to go to the polls because of illness or disability, you may vote by absentee ballot .
  • Citizens needing to verify their voter registration status are encouraged to call the General Registrar's office at 970-3250 as early as possible prior to the October 9 voter registration deadline.

Proposed Constitutional Amendments

Two proposed amendments to the Constitution of Virginia also appeared on the ballot on November 7, 2000. The text read as follows:

Question 1
Shall the Constitution of Virginia be amended to provide for a Lottery Proceeds Fund and the distribution of net lottery revenues to the localities to spend for public education purposes?

Question 2
Shall the Constitution of Virginia be amended by adding a provision concerning the right of the people to hunt, fish, and harvest game?
